    Standard linear guides are machine elements that utilize bearings developed for rotary motion to move heavy objects in a straight line. Known as recirculating linear ball bearing, or linear guideway, a linear guide consists of three components: a mobile carriage, a rail that supports the movements of the carriage, and balls. Linear motion is enabled by attaching a mechanism for recirculating the balls. The linear guide dates back to 1944.
